Wray Johnston Franklin was born on 6 September 1918 in Norton, Virginia. He was the son of Lewis Tyler Franklin and Willie Mae Johnston. He attended Tennessee High School in Bristol.
Wray Franklin entered the Navy in 1936. He served on the USS Enterprise CV-6. He died October 22, 1945 in Corona, California Naval Hospital. He is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tennessee.
