Woodward Harris was born 25 July 1916 to Barnett Harris and Cora Lee Horn. He was married to Roseanna “Rose” A. Harris and had a son, David Woodward Harris.

Pvt Harris was killed in action at the invasion at Anzio Beach in Italy on 10 July 1943. He was returned from Italy, Paestum. He is buried at City Point National Cemetery at Hopewell, Virginia, F, 4263.

Pvt. Woodward Harris, 27, was killed in action in the North African area on July 10, his father, Barnett Harris, has been notified by the war department. Pvt. Harris was drafted on July 3, 1942 and has been in North Africa since last November. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, Rose A. Harris and small son, who live at Norfolk, Va., six brothers, Sgt. Worley Harris, North Africa, Seaman James Edward Harris, Australia; Robert, Kingsport; Brownlow, Willis and Dewey, Erwin, and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Higgins, Erwin and Mrs. H.M. Gordon, Miami, Fla.
