William Thomas Standifer was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to John Walker Standifer Sr. and Ada Wanita Goodwin. His brother Pfc. Wales Oton Standifer was killed in action in 1944.

Marana Cadet dies in airplane crash – Aviation Cadet William T. Standifer, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Standifer, 217 Hillcrest avenue, Chattanooga, Tenn., was killed when his training plane crashed on a routine flight, 20 miles northwest of Marana Army airbase at 9:20 o’clock this morning.
Col. Charles Backes, commandant of Marana field, has appointed a board of qualified officers to investigate the accident.

Aviation Cadet William F. (Billy) Standifer was killed in an airplane crash late yesterday near Tucson, Ariz., the War Department said in a message to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Standifer, 217 Hillcrest Avenue. Young Standifer, whose 22nd birthday anniversary was yesterday, was one of three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Standifer serving in the United States Army. The crash occurred about 20 miles from the Marana Air Base at Tucson. Standifer recently was in California. No other details were given. Standifer, who entered the army last March 10, was a graduate of Central High School and a former student at the University of Tennessee.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Sgt. John Standifer of State College, Pa. And Pvt. Wales Standifer of The Citadel, Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. J.H. McMinn, 217 Hillcrest Avenue; Mrs. John O. Fowler Jr. of Glendora, Calif., where her husband is stationed in the army, and Miss Betty Standifer, who attends Carson-Newman College at Jefferson City, Tenn., and his grandmother, Mrs. C.L. Offutt, of Chattanooga.
