William Leonard Bowling was born in Fincastle, Tennessee. He enlisted at Gettysburg in Pennsylvania on 3 August 1917. He was killed in action at the age of 30. He is buried plot C, row 28, grave 25, Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois
