Pfc. William Howard Smith was killed in action in France, Aug. 4, according to a message from the War Department received by his wife, Mrs. Oletta Skeen Smith. Private Smith, attached to an infantry division, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Porter Smith, Talbott. He entered service in June, 1942, and had been overseas since September, 1943. Three brothers are in service. They are Sgt. Harvey E. Smith, Washington, Pfc. Roy Wallace and Pvt. Hobert C. Smith, also in France. He also had four sisters, Mrs. Cecil Sartin of Whilte Pine, and Misses Edith, Laura, and Iola Smith, at home.
