William Francis Hanley was the son of John Franklin Hanley and Ethel Mae Harmon. He was married to Willie Mae Nancy Jacobs and father of Francis Earl Hanley. He was died of wounds in Germany.

Pvt. William F. Hanley was born in Roane County, January 30, 1910. He served with the 302nd Infantry, Third Army, under General Patton. He was wounded February 2, 1945 in Germany and died February 5. He was buried in Hamm Cemetery at Luxembourg. Survivors are his wife; son, Frances; stepson, Jackie; stepdaughter, Bettie; mother, Mrs. Ethel Gallagher of Erie; three brothers, Hershel, Sweetwater; James, Erie and John, Knoxville.
