William Edward Minton was born April 2, 1925, the son of Eddith Henry Minton and Alice Gertrude Bradley. He married Iva Jo Gregg on July 8, 1943. He attended Central High School where he was flag bearer for the CHS Band. He enlisted on August 18, 1943, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA
Private Minton served with the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. He had been overseas since April, 1944 and participated in the invasion. He was killed in action September 10, 1944 in France, and was later returned to Knoxville and buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
