William “Billy” Egbert Alexander was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, son of Claude L. Alexander and Ruth Denton. He enlisted on 9 December 1942 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee with the Corps of Engineers. He was killed in action in France after being struck by a plane.
