Wilburt Vicars was born May 23, 1923 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He was the son of Henry Vicars and Hattie Catron Vicars. He was married to Alma Pauline Irvin. He left his hometown of Kingsport, Tennessee on May 17, 1944 with several of his peers for the US Navy Induction Center.
He was killed in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan on 14 October 1945. His cause of death is listed as killed in action or killed in jeep accident. Buried at Holston View Cemetery, Gate City, VA.

Morrison City – (Spl.) – The body of Wilbur J. Vicars will arrive at the Clinchfield Railroad Station in Kingsport Tuesday at 2:35 p.m., and will be removed to McConnell Funeral Home, Gate City, VA. A color guard and pallbearers from American Legion Post No. 65, Gate City, will accompany the body to Virginia, where it will remain until Saturday for removal to the home of his mother, Mrs. Ernest Davis, of Morrison City. Funeral services will be held at Stateline Baptist Church next Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Troy N. Jones, the Rev. R. W. Dillon and the Rev. Basil Freeman in charge. The Legion post will have charge of graveside services in the Veteran’s Section, Holston View Cemetery. Vicars was a native of Scott County and was the son of Henry and Hattie Ketron Vicars. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and was employed at Tennessee Eastman Corp., and Holston Ordnance Works. He enlisted in April 1944, received training at Camp Perry, Va., and Port Hueneme, Calif. He was assigned to the Seabees as a shipfitter in the Southwest Pacific. He was killed in a jeep accident in Okinawa, Oct. 14, 1945. Survivors are his widow, the former Miss Alma Irvin; two daughters, Margaret Earlene and Carolyn Sue; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Davis; a brother Earl Vicars, Kingsport, and a half-sister, Shirley Jean Davis, Kingsport.
