Pvt. Walter Mayton, 21, son of Mrs. Mary Lee Mayton of Route 3, Oliver Springs. Young Mayton died July 28 of injuries incurred when he was hit by rolling piling which was being uploaded near a River in France. Pvt. Mayton had been in service 19 months and overseas 16 months. He was a member of the CCC when it was in operation and formerly was employed by the Windrock Coal & Coke Co.
