Vern Clide Shipley was born on 11 December 1918 at Greeneville, Tennessee, the son of Sidney Leander Shipley and Addie Belle Broyles. Husband of Mary Nell Price. Pvt. Shipley was employed with the Frazier-Brace Eng. Co. in Kingsport before entering the service August 8, 1943. He received his basic training in Mississippi and Kentycky. He landed in Frnace, after three months in England.

Pvt. Vern C. Shipley, 25, was killed in action July 8 in France according to a telegram from the War Department received Saturday by his wife, Mrs. Mary Nell Shipley of Greeneville.
He is survived by his wife, who was beforeher marriage, Miss Mary Nell Price, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Shipley, three sisters and one brother, Denver Shipley and one half brother, Pvt. Claude Cooter, of Camp Wheeler, Ga.
