Thomas Loyd Owens was born on 21 August 1919,the son of Hiram Hayden Owens and Ava Cansada Owens.
He was Killed in Action 6 July 1945 in Belgium.

Funeral services were held Sunday April 10, 1949 at the Baptist Church of Jamestown for Pvt. Thomas L. Owens, son of Mrs. Cansada Owens. Pvt. Owens volunteered for service in 1940. He arrived overseas November 8, 1942 in the French Morroco. From there he continued in active service until his death in Belgium in 1945. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division which became known as “Hell on Wheels.”
Pvt. Thomas L. Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Owens, was born August 21, 1919. He died January 6, 1945 at the age of 25 years, 5 months and 16 days. Pvt. Owens, or Dutch as he was known, enlisted in the army October 25, 1940 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was stationed in Ft. Benning for his period of training and entered into maneuvers in the Tennessee-Louisiana and Carolina area from November 1941 to August 1942. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division. He landed in the French Morrocco November 8, 1942. From there he went into Sicily; then to England and on to Normandy France, June 9, 1944 and began the route of the 7th army; crossing the Seine August 28 and entered Belgium September 2. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge January 6, 1945. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Cansada Owens, his father having preceded him in death several years ago; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Carpenter and one brother, Boyd Owens. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
