Thomas Hill Goodman was the son of Thomas Hill Goodman and Mary Luttrell Mitchell.

On 27 May 1968, Staff Sergeant Thomas Hill Goodman, Jr. was serving with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SSG Goodman was killed in action when he sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered.

Graveside services for Infantry Sgt. Thomas H. Goodman Jr., who was killed in action in Vietnam three weeks ago, will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. Sgt. Goodman, son of Col. And Mrs. Thomas H. Goodman, 3824 Maloney Rd., was reported missing May 17. His body was found later. He was a 1965 graduate of Christ School, Arden, N.C. and attended U-T before joining the Army.
