Sgt Harrell was returned from Oahu-Schofield Barracks Mausoleum No. 2, Hawaiian Islands. He was buried together with Corporal Harold O. Montville at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County in Kentucky.

He served on aircraft B-25J with serial number 43-36192, nickname Jaunty Jo. They had taken a fatal hit from a hidden anti-aircraft battery during a strike on the Byoritsu oil refinery, Formosa. All aboard perished. The Jaunty Jo was not his regular plane. He volunteered for this plane and mission, because they were short a radio operator.

A Chattanooga radio technician with the air forces, Sgt. Tennysonn C. Harrell, son of Mrs. Lella Harrell, 3111 10th Avenue, and the late H.H. Harrell, yesterday was reported killed in action over Formosa May 26, the War Department informed his parents. Entering the service in January, 1944, Sgt. Harrell had been overseas approximately one month. He was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the McKenzie Business College. At the time of his entry into the army, he was a district circulation manager of the Chattanooga News-Free Press. He began work for the local newspaper in December, 1941. Sgt. Harrell, 21, is survived by his mother, one sister, Mrs. Allen Tate, Chattanooga; two brothers, Pfc. Thomas E. Harrell, with the army in Germany, and Ralph H. Harrell of Chattanooga.
