Robert Thomas Wallace was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the son of Raymond Thomas Wallace and Bessie Katherine Strange. He married Elizabeth Frances Compton in Prattville, Alabama on 31 August 1940. The couple had two small daughter, Anne Elizabeth and Roberta Virginia Wallace.
He was a graduate of Powells High and the Holy Ghost Grammar School. He formerly was employed by The Knoxville Journal in the rural circulation department. He had been in the Army since September, 1939. He was promoted to the rank of technical sergeant at Elgin Field, Fla in March, 1943.

Tech. Sgt. Robert T. Wallace, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly stationed at Maxwell Field here, was burned fatally Saturday night in a tourist camp cabin near Perry, Fla., Arm authorities notified his widow here. Information given relatives was to the effect that Wallace and another soldier, detailed to move a truckload of supplies from Eglin Field, had parked their truck while taking turns standing watch. When Wallace came off watch and went to sleep, it was believed his cigarette ignited the bedding. Besides his widow, who lives with her parents here, Wallace is survived by two small children. The funeral will be held in Knoxville.
