The body of Pfc. Stewart Whitehead will arrive in Johnson City tomorrow. Whitehead, who was killed in action December 30, 1944, at Saipan, entered service October 10, 1942. He received basic training at Yorktown, N.C., and went overseas in January, 1943. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Jennie Whitehead, route 2, Roan Mountain; a brother, Leonard Whitehead, Roan Mountain; three sisters, Mrs. Charlie Ingram, Roan Mountain; Mrs. Edith Russell, Johnson City; Mrs. Gordon Bailey, Milligan. The body will be removed to his mother’s home tomorrow afternoon. Funeral and burial services will be conducted at Thursday in the Largent Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Hill officiating. The Cherokee Post of the American Legion at Roan Mountain will render full military honors.
