Sherman William Maples was born in Corryton, Tennessee, the son of Horace Irish Maples and Ella Flagg. He was the brother of Evelyn Maples and Mildred Maples. Sherman married Monteray Cross on 25 November 1940. He was the step-father of Shirley Barger.
Sherman Maples enlisted on Febuary 10, 1943, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. He Died non Battle 10 November 1944 at the Thayer General Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee of cirrhosis of the liver.
