Samuel Vernon (also Sam Varne) Walling was born on 25 March 1918 in Kingsport, Tennessee, the son of William Walling and Viola Jones.
He Died non Battle 5 June 1941 in Bristol, Sullivan County, Tennessee. He was a former employe of the Stone Lumber Company

Samuel Vernon Walling, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.V. Walling of 111 Third street, and on furlough from the United States army, was found dead at 7:45 o’clock this morning in a lumber shed at the Stone Lumber Company, on Third street, near his home. Death was attributed to natural causes. Young Walling, a good Character and record, enlisted in the United States army three months ago and was placed in charge of a large group of recruits enroute from Bristol to Richmond. He came to Bristol June 1 on a 10 day furlough.
