Sammie Lee Crawford was the son of Thomas Crawford and Mary Roberts. He married Eliza Florence Trent on 24 December 1941 in Gate, Virginia. The couple had one child, Martha Marie Trent.
Pvt Crawford took his training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, after entering service, November 16, 1942. He went overseas February 15, 1943 and was with Company D, U.S. Infantry. He died August 6, 1943 in North Africa of shrapnel wounds.
