Roy Davis Cate was born on 23 June 1917 at Chattanooga, Tennessee to Roy Isham Cate and Ruby Davis.

Died of wounds while serving with the 47th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Armored Division in the European Theater of operations. He died in a military hospital due to flak over Germany in November of 1944.

Master Sergeant Roy D. Cate Jr., a former well known young Henderson businessman who was killed in Germany in November, 1944, will be given burial at the Memorial Park cemetery in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was formerly engaged in business here with his father, Roy D. Cate Sr., and entered the army in April, 1941. He went overseas with the field artillery of an armored division in January, 1944. He was first buried in Henri Chapelle cemetery in Belgium and was returned to the United States recently aboard the U.S. Army transport Robert Burns. During his residence here he was prominently identified with the Junior Chamber of Commerce and other civic activities. He is survived by his parents. The father, recently retired from business because of his health and he and Mrs. Cate are now living in Chattanooga.
