Robert Stills was born on 7 December 1925, the son of Lawrence Elmer Stills and and Nora McInturff. Robert moved with his family to Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee in the early 1930s. His father passed away on 13 December 1935 leaving his mother to raise three children. Robert attended school and had completed two years of college prior to enlisting in the United States Army on 26 January 1944 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was Killed in Action on 25 December 1944 in Germany.

Pfc. Robert Stills, 19-year-old infantry soldier, was killed in action in Germany Christmas Day, 1944, the War Department has notified his mother, Mrs. Nora Humon, of Kingsport road, Johnson City. Private Stills was inducted into the Army February 16, 1944. Surviving besides his mother are a sister, Lucille Stills and a brothers, Otis D. Stills, of Atlanta, Ga.
