Mr. and Mrs. J. Arthur Norman of Banner Elk, N.C. had been notified that their son, Cpl. Robert Ray Norman, was killed in action in France August 2. Cpl. Norman left NARC April 11, 1942 for FortBragg,N.C. and was transferred to Fort Knox, Ky., before he went overseas in December, 1943. He was with the forces in the invading Pantelleria and Sicily. He landed with the infantry on the coast of France on D-Day. Surviving are four brothers, Claude Norman, Henry Norman, Willie Norman and S/Sgt Herman T. Norman, also in France; a half-brother, E. Richard Eller; five sisters, Annie Cannon, Thelma Bishop, Edna James, Nellie Winters and Flow Aldridge.
