Robert Russell Heaton was the brother of Pinkney A. Heaton, Pickens.

He was serving with the 24th Infantry Division on Kyushu, Japan in December 1949.

Sergeant Heaton was a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Engineer Combat Battalion, 24th Infantry Division. He was killed while fighting the enemy in South Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
