Robert Leon Brinkley was the son of Christopher B. Brinkley and Bertha Mae Johnson.

Seaman Brinkley, 17, was killed in his first battle action, the War Department notified his parents. The offical telegram was received by the parents on May 27, but did not disclose the date of their son’s death. Prior to entering the navy nine months ago, he was employed as a printer by the Chattanooga News-Free Press. A former student at the H. Clay Evans School, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Cross, Chattanooga, and father, Chris Brinkley, McMinnville, Tenn.; four sister, Glena Faye, Leoda Fletcher, Isobel Paschal and Rezina Brinkley; two brothers, J.B. and Chris Brinkley Jr.
