Robert Earnest Martin was born 21 December 1921, the son of William Baxter Martin and Birdie Chandler. He was married to Eva E. Guinn on 18 May 1944 in Unicoi County, Tennessee and they were the parents of Robbie Jean Martin.

Funeral for Private Robert E. Martin, who died January 25, 1945 in Belgium, will be held at Clear Branch Baptist Church in Unicoi county. Full military honors will be accorded by Unaka Post No. 25, American Legion. Private Martin, who was 24 years of age at the time of death, was wounded in action and died a few days later. The body arrived on Southern train No. 46 for  reburial. Private Martin served with the infantry. He entered service July 25, 1944, and was sent overseas December 30, 1944. He was a member of Clear Brach Baptist Church, and before entering the service was a farmer in the Washington College community. He also attended Unicoi County High School.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Eva Guinn Martin; a daughter,  Robbie Jean Martin, both of Erwin, route 2; parents, Mr. And Mrs. Baxter Martin of Jonesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Roby Ward of Washington College, Miss Louise and Miss Lois Martin; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Chandler of Clear Branch.
