Robert Calvin Smith, the son of John Oliver Smith and Crettie Woods. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 20, 1941. He was qualified as a sharpshooter with both rifle and pistol.
He was killed in the battle of Tarawa on 20 November 1943. He was officially declared dead on 21 November 1944 and is memorialized at Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii
