Richard Alfred Scoggins was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the son of Ira G. Scoggins and Mary Augusta Murray.

Reported dead of wounds was Pfc. Richard Scoggins, son of Mrs. Mary A. Scoggins, 4304 13th Avenue;
Pfc. Scoggins, 31, was previously reported wounded in action in Belgium on Jan. 7, but word received by his mother yesterday stated he had died of wounds in a hospital in Belgium on Jan. 20. He was a graduate of Central High School and was employed at the Peerless Woolen Mills before entering the army in November, 1942. He had been overseas since last August. Surviving him in addition to his mother are two brothers, F1C I.L. Scoggins, now on duty with the navy, and Jack Scoggins of Chattanooga and four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Parker, Mrs. Herman Hunnicutt and Miss Betty Frances Scoggins, all of Chattanooga and Miss Evelyn Scoggins of Philadelphia.
