T/Sgt Reed B. Pickett, 37, son of J.L. Pickett, 3222 Fifth Avenue, was killed in an automobile accident in Cherbourg, France on Aug. 10, but his mother never knew of her only son’s death. She died yesterday after a lingering illness, shielded from the tragic news by her family for more than three months. His father and sisters kept the news from his mother because of her critical condition. He attended Central High School and before enlisting in the army in February, 1941, was connected with the Cavalier Corporation here. He is survived by his father, J.L. Pickett and six sisters, Miss Amy L. Pickett, Mrs. Frances Snider, Mrs. Lela Bennett, Mrs. Charles R. Hughes, Mrs. Jack Prater and Miss Mildred Pickett, all of Chattanooga.
