Perry Oliver was stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station, Eagle Mountain Lake, Texas. He drowned in the Eagle Mountain lake when his boat overturned. (See article below)

Perry Lee Oliver, 28, aviation machinist’s mate, second class, USNR, and son of Mrs. Gussie Oliver, Chattanooga Valley, drowned last Sunday in Eagle Mountain Lake near Fort Worth, Tex. Oliver, a veteran of 18 months action in the South Pacific, returned to the United States 30 days ago and had just spent a furlough at home. He was returing to duty from his furloough. He was employed by the U.S. Pipe and Foundry Company here before entering the service. He was a member of Flintstone Methodist Church, Friendship Council No 2, Junior Order of United American Mechanics and of the Lookout Post, 1289, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a graduate of Chattanooga Valley High School. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gussie Oliver; two sisters, Miss Martha Oliver, Chattanooga Valley; Mrs. S.E. Moore, Miami, Fla.; brother, AMM3C G.M. Oliver, U.S. Navy, at sea, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Hartline, Chattanooga Valley.
