Pelham Eugene De Witt was born on 16 February 1914, the son of William Robert DeWitt and Ella Holt. Husband of Lillian Wilhoit and father of Carol Jean DeWitt and Kenneth DeWitt.

The body of Pvt. Pelham DeWitt, aged 31, who was killed in France during World War II, will arrive in Greeneville on the Tennessean and will be removed to the Kiser Funeral Home. The body will be escorted from the train to the funeral home by a VFW color guard. The funeral will be held at Ebenezer with full military honors. Pvt. DeWitt is survived by his wife, , Mrs. Lillian DeWitt; one son, Kenneth; one daughter, Carol Jean; two brothers, Drew and Roscoe Dewitt and two sisters, Mrs. Zola Renner and Mrs. Cleo Burger. Pvt. DeWitt went into the army March 9, 1944 and served with the Third Army. He was killed in action January 3, 1945. In private life he was employed with the A.A. McLean Company.
