Paul Walker Pickrell was born on 22 October 1921 at Middlesboro, Kentucky, the son of Roy Lee Pickrell and Martha Jane Walker.

Sgt Pickrell was killed in an automobile accident in McMinn County, Tennessee. He was the son of Roy Lee Pickrell and Martha Jane Walker. Buried at Sunset Cemetery, Clinton, TN.

One person was killed instantly and four others more or less seriously hurt when two cars were in collision on the Lee highway, seven miles north of Athens, at 3 o’clock this morning. Sergt. Paul Pickrell, 28, of Clinton, Tenn., is dead and four others in the Sweetwater hospital are Sergt. John L. Susan, 24, of Pottsville, Pa., a companion of Pickrell; Paul Goodwin, 27, and Ivan Goodwin, 25, brothers of Cleveland, Tenn., and mIss Mary Humphreys, of Bronxton, Ga., occupants of the other car. Sergt. Susan has head injuries; Miss Humphreys and Paul Goodwin, critically injured, lacerations and probable internal injuries. Ivan Goodwin, laceration on arm. The body of Pickrell was brought to Evans Funeral Home in Athens. It was remored to the home of his parents in Clinton.
Sergt. Pickrell was driving the car in which he and Sergt. Susan were riding. Paul Goodwin was driver of the other automobile. Pickrell and Susan were mechanics in the United States Aviation corps and had been stationed at McDowell Field at Tampa, Fla., but had been transferred to Barksdale Field, La., and were en route to visit the former’s parents at Clinton, before going to the new location.
The Goodwin brothers are employed at the aluminum plant at Alcoa and Miss Humphreys is said to have been visiting relatives in Maryville. State Highway Patrolman C.W. Strader, who investigated, said from indications of both cars, both were headed toward Knoxville. Both cars were demolished.
