Pvt. Paul J. Fitzgerald, of the Marine Corps, was drowned in the line of duty on Aug.  in the Southwest Pacific theatre of action, his father, Dr. Thomas F. Fitzgerald, of Clinton Pike, was advised officially yesterday. Pvt. Fitzgerald, 1941 graduate of University of Tennessee, enlisted in the Marine Corps on Jan. 3, 1942. He was sent to a West Coast base and was unable to return for his mother’s funeral last February as his outfit sailed shortly afterwards. He was president of the Biological Society at U-T and because of his excellent work in this science was selected for field work in New York City in insect control research during two summers. Dr. Fitzgerald has two other sons in the Army and a fourth is engaged in the maritime defense work. All four sons were graduated from U-T. Capt. William E. Fitzgerald, 32, a former Knoxville attorney, is stationed at a Long Island camp. Corp. Francis M. Fitzgerald is at Fort Warren in Wyoming. Thomas O. Fitzgerald, 34, is in maritime production work at Gulfport, Miss.
