Nubert Miles was born on 13 January 1918 in Eldridge, Alabama, to Andrew Jackson “Jack” Miles and Kizzie B. Hudson.
He enlisted on 22 April 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia and was Killed in Action 11 February 1944 in Italy.

Twice has a grim telegram reached into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Miles, of Eldridge. Each time it told about the death of one of their sons. The first was Pvt. Nubert R. Miles, and the second, nearly a year later, was Pvt. Curtis L. Miles. Pvt. Nubert R. Miles, 27, husband of the former Bertha Rogers, Stevenson, was killed in action in Italy, February 11, 1944. He entered the service April 21, 1943, and received his infantry training at Camp Croft, S.C. During four months overseas he served in North Africa and Italy. The Purple Heart has been posthumously awarded to him. A former student of Eldridge Jr. High School, he worked in a cement plant in Birmingham before his induction.
Pvt. Curtis L. , Miles, , husband of the former Ruby Powers, Waynesville, Mo., was killed in action n Belgium, Jan. 18, 1945. He had been in Belgium one month. He had previously served in the Panama Canal Zone. Pvt. Miles entered the service November 16, 1939, and received his infantry training at Ft. Benning, Ga. A former student of Eldridge Jr. High School, he worked on the farm before his enlistment.
