The Baptist and Reflector, Octobeer 5, 1944
PFC. Newton A. Sitzler, son of Rev. and Mrs. W.A. Sitzlar of Tenmile, Tenn., was born June 12th, 1916, and killed in action in France July 17th, 1944. Besides his parents he leaves three sisters and four brothers to mourn his loss. One brother, Pvt. Thomas W. Sitzlar, is in the U.S. service. Newton was converted and joined Tenmile Baptist Church during a revival held in August 1939. He was a regular in attendance of the services of his church, was always reverent in God’s house and cheerfully and promptly did his part his Sunday school class and Training Union. He was the second young man from our church to be called into service. We judge from the information we have gathered that he made a good soldier, and during his training received several decorations for expert marksmanship. He served in the Coast Guard near the Canada line for several months, and was sent overseas last June, where death soon ended all the horrors of war for Newton. Another hero has made the supreme sacrifice for home, country and God. It grieves us that Newton’s life was cut off in young manhood, that he has been home his last furlough; but his loved ones can find comfort in the assurance that he has gone to a home where he will know no more bloodshed, pain nor sorrow. Since Newton and many other young men have given their all that we may enjoy freedom and liberty, surely we should do no less than lay our all on God’s altar to be used by Him for His glory and the upbuilding of His Kingdom. The church extends heartfelt sympathy to his family.
