Naff Lawrence Laws was born in Pensacola, Yancey County, North Carolina, son of Robert Laws and Ann Miller. He was married with Rosa Lee Garland and was father of Betty Ann Laws and Edward Junior Laws.
He was shipped aboard the tanker, Jacksonville, as a member of the Naval Armed Guard. The Jacksonville was in transit in the North East Atlantic when she was torpedoed and sunk.
