He was the son of Samuel William Mitchell and Lelia M. Albright. Brother of Alice Marie, Dorothy M., Eloise and Dimple Mae Mitchell.

Pfc. Donald Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mitchell, 2030 Linden Avenue, was killed in action somewhere in France, Feb. 3, his parents were notified by the War Department. He was 20. Volunteering for service Jan. 16, 1943, Pfc. Mitchell trained at Camp Bowie, Tex., and went overseas Sept. 18, 1943. He saw action with the Fifth Army in Italy, and later entered some bitter campaigns against the Germans in France, where he fell in action. He was a member of Linden Avenue Baptist Church, attended Park Junior High School and worked as a mechanical helper for a truck sales company here before volunteering. Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Marie Dalson, Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Eloise and Demple Mae Mitchell, at home.
