Mitchel Sexton was born in Cordell, Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Robert Sexton and Florinda Newport. He died on 21 October 1918 of appendicitis at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia.
His parents are buried at Rob Sexton Cemetery in Scott County, Tennessee
