Melvin Roy Wright the son Roy L. Wright and Dixie A. Wright of Knoxville TN, entered service (Selective Service) in the US Marine Corps on March 17 1966 in Knoxville, TN. He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division (Rein) FMF.
Southeast of Hill 55 during a platoon sweep in the vicinity of the Thuy Bo hamlet complex in Dien Ban District the Marines were hit with a large volume of small arms fire from hostile forcers across the river resulting in one Marine killed by the gunfire and three men being wounded. Supporting arms were requested on the enemy position and a subsequent search of the area made revealing blood trails.
