Cpl. Marion Abe Shewmaker (spelled “Shoemaker” on ETVM) was born 8 September 1924 in Mercer, Kentucky. He was the son of John Shewmaker  and Gertrude F. Woods. He was married to Gussie Walls.
He was killed in action on 29 July 1944 on Guam in the South Pacific.
Cpl Shewmaker was initially buried at Guam No. 2 Agat, Marianas Islands.. He is buried at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY, D, 3904

Mr. and Mrs. John Shewmaker received a telegram from their daughter-inn-law, Mrs. Gussie Shewmaker, of Tellico Plains, Tenn., advising them that their son, Cpl. Marion Shewmaker, 19, U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action in the South Pacific, according to word from the War Department. Corporal Shewmaker volunteered for service in December, 1941, and received his boot training at Parris Island, S.C. He later trained at Quantico, Va., and Jacksonville, Fla., and was sent to the Hawaiian Islands in December, 1943. The last letter received by his parents was dated July 8 and in it he had stated that he was well. He also had written his parents that he had participated in two battles in the Marshall Islands.
