PFC Lyman Newman, son of Will Arthur and Debie Reagan Newman, was killed in the Invasion of Normandy. He enlisted in service August 22, 1942. He was survived by his parents; six brothers, Quinice, S.G., David, Donald, Earl and Carroll Newman, two sisters, Miss Cleo Newman and Mrs. Truman Carey.
PFC Newman is buried at Middle Creek Cemetery, Sevierville, Sevier County, Tennessee.

PFC Lyman Newman, 23, of Route 3, Sevierville, was killed in the invasion of Normandy, June 18, 1944. He enlisted in service Aug. 22, 1942, and was overseas 18 months. Survivors: daughter, Ruth; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Newman; brothers, Quinice, S.G., David, Donald, Earl, Carroll; sisters, Mrs. Truman Cary, Miss Cleo Newman. The body arrived in Knoxville Monday and will be taken to the home of his parents. Funeral services in Middle Creek Methodist Church. Interment, church cemetery.
