He enlisted on 12 December 1942 – Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Died 2 October 1944

Funeral services for Pfc. Luther R. Shope whose body has been returned from overseas will take place at Phillips Church at Bulls Gap.
Pfc. Shope entered the service December 12, 1942, serving with the 94 Division. He was killed in action in France October 2, 1944.
