Luther Miller was the son of Luther Miller and Cora Lee Miller.
Luther Miller Jr. served as a gunner on the U.S.S. Mannert L. Abele (DD733) in the South Pacific area.
On the 12th of April 1945 the U.S.S. Mannert L. Abele was struck by two enemy suicide planes. The first hit in the aft engine room starboard side, the second about one minute later in the forward fire room starboard side. The ship settled rapidly and sank about three minutes after the second hit.

Reported missing is S1C Luther Miller Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Miller, Route 2, East Chattanooga. Seaman Miller is missing in action on Okinawa, the Navy Department informed his parents yesterday. He received his education in Harrison, Bess T. Shepherd and Tyner High Schools and was employed by the J.T. Jones Construction Company Prior to entering the service 14 months ago.
