Leonard Rufus Shoun was born 14 May 1912, in Morristown, Tennessee, the son of Murray Hamilton Shoun and Maggie J. Mink. He was married to Mary Dorothy Large. He is the father of Ronald Shoun, a member of VFW Post 5266 Honor Guard.
He died 2 October 1944.

Pvt. Leonard Rufus Shoun, age 31, was killed in battle October 2, 1944. He was inducted into the Army January 7, 1944. After 17 weeks training course, he was sent overseas in August, 1944. He served with the Infantry and was overseas 8 weeks when he was killed.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Shoun; one daughter, Linda Shoun and one son, Ronald Shoun, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Shoun, four sister, Mrs. Victor Stump, Mrs. John Trolinger, Mrs. Earl Dickerson, and Mrs. Ed McClanahan, all of Morristown; three brothers, Jim, Ed and Henry Shoun, all of Morristown.
