Lemuel C. Spurgeon ws born in 1920 in Newport, TN. He was the son of James Caswell and Lobelia Nunn Spurgeon and brother of Clake Altra Spurgeon and Dorothy Spurgeon.
He enlisted on October 3, 1940 in the Medical Department in Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA

“Today 13 October 2015 we remember Private Lemuel C Spurgeon.
Lemuel C Spurgeon was born in Newport, Cocke County, Tennessee 1913.
He served in the 8th Infantry Regiment – 4th Infantry Division, he was a Medic.
Private Lemuel C Spurgeon was KIA in Belgium on 13 October 1944.
He was awarded with Purple Heart.  
Lemuel C Spurgeon is buried at Henry-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial.
We have adopted his grave.

Pfc. Lemuel C. Spurgeon, nephew of Mrs. T.L. White and Mrs. Charles Dudley  of Knoxville, was killed in Belgium in Oct. 18, according to the War Department. Pfc. Spurgeon enlisted in 1939, and has been overseas since January. He had seen action in France, and Germany. He is survived by a brother, C.A. Spurgeon, of Knoxville, and a sister, Dorothy. He was 25 years old.
