Pvt Fair was the son of Charles Fair and Dora Bell Crowe. He was married to Nina Morrison Fair who died of rheumatic heart disease at Tacoma Hospital at Greenville on 23 February 1942. Lawson Fair enlisted on 2 June 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He died of a sunstroke in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia at the age of 30.

Pvt. Lawson Fair, died July 19, 1942, at Camp Wheeler, Ga., where he was stationed. Fair was with the United States Army, Company D of the 13th Training Battalion, at his death. He is the son of Mrs. Dora Fair of 902 Claiborne street.
