Laverne East, 24, of 5001 17th Ave., a Vietnam War veteran and lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died Monday afternoon in the Nashville Veterans Hospital. He was employee of Combustion Engineering Inc. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and several other medals for his Vietnam service. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Diane Jackson East, parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. East of Chattanooga, five brothers, Jimmy, Bobby, Johnny, Vance and David East, all of Chattanooga, two sisters, Debbie and Donna East, both of Chattanooga. Funeral services for Laverne were held at Philadelphia Baptist Church and he was buried in the Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
