Cpl. Joseph William Short was born on August 24, 1948, and was originally from Hixson, Tennssee. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army, as an infantryman in C Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. His tour began on December 21, 1967. On April 13, 1968, he was killed under hostile conditions from fragmentation wounds suffered in an explosion, in Binh Duong province, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. Cpl. Short is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 49E, Line 47.
