Major John Thomas Welshan started his tour on 3 March 1968. He died on 15 July 1975 when his aircraft crashed. His body was not recovered. He is memorialized at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
He was graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1964 and was married to the former Marily Import of Newcastle.
