John Henry Runyan was born on 17 February 1917, son of John Henry Runyan and Lou Jessie Powell. His brother, Robert Harry Runyan served in Australia.
He served in the Infantry from 11 January 1941 to 29 July 1944. Sgt. Runyan died of wounds 29 July 1944 Normandy, France. He suffered injuries to his Femur and Pelvic Region causing Hemorrhage. He was a battle casualty due to an artillery shell.
