John Hobert Maddox (also spelled as Maddux) was the son of Mr and Mrs John Maddux and was married to the former Beverly Caroline Harris.

John Hobert Maddox, Torpedoman’s Mate, first class, United States Navy, was one of eighty-six sailors killed aboard submarine USS Growler (SS-215) on 8 November 1944. Growler was on her eleventh war patrol and was part of a coordinated attack along with USS Hardhead and USS Hake off of Manila. Growler was presumed to have been sunk by depth charges.
TM1 Maddox joined the Navy in December 1939 and was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. He was awarded a Purple Heart medal, and is included at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial
